한국에서 조류독감이 당국의 가금류 살처분 조치에도 불구하고 계속 확산되고 있습니다.

한국 정부는 전라북도 정읍의 한 농장에서 인체에 치명적인 H5N1 조류독감 바이러스가 확인됐다고 밝혔습니다. 당국은 정읍의 다른 농장에서도 조류독감 바이러스 발생 여부를 조사 중입니다.

한국 정부는 지난 3일 정읍에서 30 킬로미터 떨어진 전라북도 김제에서 조류독감 바이러스가 발견됐다고 확인했습니다. 한국에서 조류독감 바이러스가 발견된 것은 일 년만에 처음입니다.

Bird flu outbreaks are spreading in South Korea despite mass culls and other efforts to contain the deadly virus.

Agriculture officials say the latest outbreak of the deadly H5N1 strain of the disease occurred at a farm in Jeongeup, a city about 250 kilometers south of the capital, Seoul. Officials are investigating possible outbreaks at several other farms in the same area.

Last Thursday, South Korea confirmed its first outbreak of the virulent strain of bird flu at a farm in Gimje, which is located 30 kilometers away from Jeongeup.

The outbreaks are the country's first in more than a year. The strain can be deadly to humans.

The World Health Organization says 238 people around the world have died from bird flu since 2003.
