  • Second most important holy festival in Islam
  • Celebrated at the end of the Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca
  • Commemorates the prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son when told to do so by Allah. When Ibrahim was about to kill his son Allah gave him a lamb to sacrifice instead.
  • Muslims who can afford it, sacrifice a sheep or goat and give some of the meat to the poor
  • Begins in 2012 at sunset on October 25
