The head of a confederation of workers unions begins a four-week trip to the US, seeking support for better wages and conditions for garment workers and teachers. Rong Chhun, head of the Cambodian Confederation of Workers and president of the Independent Teachers Association, said he will raise issues with US officials, democracy groups and human rights organizations in the US. “The US is a key donor to Cambodia, and the US is a big market for garment and shoe production. So in my view, the US has influence over Cambodia in pushing for the respect of human rights and giving the freedom for workers and teachers to have better working conditions,” Rong Chhun told VOA Khmer's Sok Khemara in an interview in VOA studio in Washington on October 11.
