Sampa Lhundup is the man behind the wide range of traditional and non-traditional carved artifacts on tibetanwoodcarver.com. Originally from Nagchu, Tibet, he studied woodcarving at Jakyung Shingkoeh in Dharamsala, where he completed a six year apprenticeship. He has since undertaken major commissioned projects in India, building majestic thrones, complex mandalas, and monastery alters that are up to 63 feet wide. Working out of his workshop in Rochester, New York, Lhundup continues to create sublimely beautiful art from blocks of wood, and has lately garnered quite a following for his short commentary videos and songs on Facebook.
