South Carolina Under Pressure to Take Down Confederate Flag


Political and religious leaders in South Carolina and elsewhere are calling for the removal of the Confederate battle flag from the state Capitol grounds in Columbia in honor of nine black people killed in Charleston, South Carolina last week. For many people in the southern states, the Confederate flag represents an honorable symbol of their history, but it is increasingly seen also as a symbol of slavery and racism.
