Russian officials say 13 people have been killed and 23 others injured in an explosion at a coal mine in central Siberia.
Russia's Emergencies Ministry says the apparent methane gas explosion occurred early Thursday at the Listvyazhnaya mine in the Kemerovo region.
Some 103 people were underground at the time of the explosion. The ministry says 67 people were brought to the surface unharmed.
Accidents are common in Russian mines, many of which date back to dictator Josef Stalin's 1920's industrialization drive.
A blast in the Kemerovo region in April killed at least 45 miners, and a flooded mineshaft in October of last year trapped 11 miners underground for a week in a mine near Ukraine.
