Seven Month Ban Placed on Adrian Mutu of Chelsea Football Team for Taking Cocaine

Former Chelsea football striker Adrian Mutu has been banned for seven months after being found guilty of taking cocaine.

He was also fined nearly $37,000 and will be subject to drug testing throughout the suspension. The English Football Association (FA) said Mutu must also complete a drug education and rehabilitation program.

Mutu's suspension included time served under an interim ban that started October 25. The suspension runs until May 18, 2005. The striker, 25, has decided not to appeal the ruling.

Chelsea fired Mutu last month after he failed a drug test and later admitted taking cocaine. The Romanian national team captain joined Chelsea from the Italian club Parma in a deal worth more than $28 million.
