London 2012 Olympic Bid Committee Releases Plans for Olympic Park

update

The London 2012 Olympic bid committee has released plans for its Olympic Park, which organizers hope will regenerate an area of east London near the suburb of Stratford.

The proposed Olympic Park would include a new stadium for athletics, an aquatic center, and arenas for fencing, field hockey and baseball. Also planned are a velodrome and three indoor arenas for basketball, handball, volleyball and modern pentathlon.

The Olympic village and press facilities would also be at the location, with all sites linked by walkways, green space and a recreated Lea River.

The International Olympic Committee will announce its selection for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games next July. Paris, New York, Madrid and Moscow also are bidding for the games.
