Burmese Independence Hero Bohmu Aung Dies

Bohmu Aung, a veteran Burmese politician and one of the "30 Comrades" who fought for Burma's independence from Britain, has died.

His family said Mr. Bohmu Aung died earlier this week at his Rangoon home of natural causes. He was in his 90s.

Mr. Bohmu Aung and the other 30 Comrades secretly went to Japan in 1940 for military training. They later formed the Burma Independence Army, which was led by General Aung San.

Following Burma's independence, Mr. Bohmu Aung held various posts under the government of former Prime Minister U Nu. In recent years, he had been actively involved in Burma's pro-democracy movement.
