UK: Bush February Visit not Confirmed

update

The British government has cast doubt on a London newspaper report that President Bush would hold talks with Prime MInister Tony Blair in February, shortly before an expected national election in Britain.

A spokeswoman for the prime minister said Sunday there are no confirmed plans for such a visit.

The Sunday Times of London had reported there were plans for Mr. Bush to visit London just three months before Mr. Blair is expected to go before voters to seek a third term as prime minister.

The Times said Mr. Bush would stop in London on the way to Brussels for talks with European Union and NATO officials on more "intensive" contacts between America and Europe in the future.

Mr. Blair was in Washington last week as Mr. Bush's first post-election state visitor. The two men discussed reviving the Middle East peace process, the situation in Iraq and political developments in Afghanistan.

Mr. Bush's last visit to Britain was in November 2003.
