Witnesses in the northern Iraqi city of Baiji say a car bomb has exploded near a U.S. military convoy, killing at least five people and wounding more than a dozen others.
Authorities have yet to identify the victims of Wednesday's deadly blast, which occurred midway between Baghdad and the northern city of Mosul.
Clashes between coalition forces and insurgents have spread throughout the area since U.S. and Iraqi troops launched an offensive in Fallujah early last week.
Coalition forces continued to pound insurgent positions in Fallujah, where some pockets of resistance remain.
U.S. military officials in Mosul say the situation there is calmer Wednesday after an intense operation Tuesday to regain police stations and government buildings taken by insurgents last week.
