England Grabs World Cup Gold Lead

English golfers Paul Casey and Luke Donald have a five-stroke lead at the halfway point of the team World Cup championship in Seville, Spain.

In an alternate shot format Friday, Paul Casey and Luke Donald combined to shoot an 8-under-par 64 for a two-round total of 19-under, 125. They got off to a fast start in the second round, making four straight birdies beginning with the third hole.

Donald says he usually hit the first and third shots for each hole. "Our plan was to give me the odds out here, a lot of iron shots, and leave Paul with all the putts. And he's putting great right now and holed a lot of great putts today and that really kept our momentum going," he said.

The Austrian team of Martin Wiegele and Markus Brier, the first-round co-leaders, had a 70, which was 10 shots worse than they had on the opening day. They are in second place, five shots off the lead.

Six teams are tied for third, six shots off the pace. They are the United States, with Scott Verplank and Bob Tway, South Africa, Sweden, Spain, Japan, and Ireland.
