Veteran Austrian skier Hans Knauss has announced he tested positive for the steroid nandralone after a World Cup downhill race in Lake Louise, Alberta, last month.
The International Ski Federation told Austrian officials about the test earlier this week. Knauss was immediately flown to Vienna for another test, which came up negative.
The skier said Friday that he was innocent, and never took the drug on purpose. The Austrian team has requested a so-called"B" test, which should be completed within the next 10 days.
Knauss finished sixth in Friday's super-giant slalom race in Val Gardena, Italy. The 33-year-old Austrian has won seven races in a 14-season World Cup career.
