Scientists Discover New Species in Remote Region of Indonesia

International scientists say they have discovered several new species, including one of the world's largest cockroaches, inside the caves of Indonesia's most remote jungles.

Scientists on an expedition sponsored by the U.S.-based Nature Conservancy say the new species were found in cave systems in the East Kalimantan region of Indonesian Borneo. The findings were made during a five-week expedition which concluded in September.

The group called on the Indonesian government to immediately protect the region, saying it is being threatened by illegal logging and other forms of environmental degradation.
