US Coast Guard Repatriates 208 Haitian Migrants

The U.S. Coast Guard says it has repatriated 208 Haitian migrants to Port-au-Prince after rescuing them Sunday from an overcrowded sailboat.

The Coast Guard said Wednesday the nine-meter boat was spotted in the Windward Passage between Cuba and Haiti.

Officials say the vessel was making long, slow rolls indicating it was unstable and could possibly capsize. But they say all the migrants aboard the boat were rescued and provided with food, water and medical attention.

The Coast Guard says hundreds of Haitian migrants have been returned to their homeland since late February, when rebels ousted the government of then-President Jean-Bertrand Aristide.
