Dutch MP Hirsi Ali Returns To Parliament

A Somali-born member of the Dutch parliament has come out of hiding and returned to her legislative duties, less than a week after police said they discovered an Islamic extremist plot to assassinate her.

Last week, police said they had evidence that alleged Islamic extremists had planned to assassinate liberal lawmaker and critic of radical Islam Aayan Hirsi Ali on December 31 last year.

Ms. Hirsi Ali went into hiding after the killing of her friend, controversial filmmaker Theo van Gogh, who was assassinated by a suspected Islamic extremist last November. A note left by the presumed killer contained threats against Ms. Hirsi Ali's life.

The filmmaker and Ms. Hirsi Ali had collaborated on Mr. van Gogh's film, Submission, which criticized the treatment of women under Islam.
