Mauresmo Makes 4th Round in Australian Women's Tennis Open


Amelie Mauresmo of France has advanced to the fourth round of the Australian Open tennis tournament with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Ana Ivanovic of Serbia and Montenegro.

The 17-year-old Ivanovic made the biggest ranking jump of any player on the WTA Tour last year when she rose 608 places to 97. But the 2004 junior Wimbledon finalist fell to the tournament's second seed today (Friday) in her first match of a Grand Slam event.

Also reaching the fourth round in Melbourne is 15th seeded Silvia Farina Elia of Italy, a 6-1, 6-love (0) winner over Elena Baltacha of Great Britain. The tournament is over for Amy Frazier of the United States. The 15th seed was eliminated by Russian Eugenia Linetskaya, 6-3, 6-4.
