Tennis: Roddick Advances to Regions Morgan Keegan Championship Semifinals

Top-seeded American tennis player Andy Roddick needed two tiebreakers to advance past countryman Robby Ginepri at the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships in Memphis, Tennessee.

Despite turning his ankle in the second set Friday night, Roddick held on for the 7-6, 7-6 quarterfinal victory. If his ankle heals enough to play, Roddick will face Kenneth Carlsen in the semifinals. The Danish player saved three break points to get by American Jan-Michael Gambill, 7-6, 7-5.

Second-seeded Tommy Haas of Germany also advanced to the final four. His sore back was feeling better as he beat fifth-seeded Xavier Malisse of Belgium, 6-4, 6-3. Haas will play eighth-seeded Max Mirnyi of Belarus, who defeated Antony Dupuis of France, a 7-6, 7-6.

In women's semifinal play, third-seeded Meghann Shaughnessy of the United States barely held off seventh-seeded 15-year-old Nicole Vaidisova of the Czech Republic, 7-6, 7-6. In the final the American challenges top-seeded defending champion Vera Zvonareva, after the Russian scored a 6-4, 6-1 win over eighth-seeded countrywoman Evgenia Linetskaya.
