Authorities in Saudi Arabia say security forces clashed Sunday with suspected Islamic militants in the Red Sea city of Jeddah, killing one and capturing three others.
An interior ministry spokesman said security forces were raiding a residential building housing a wanted militant when the gunbattle erupted. A civilian man, his wife, and several security officers were wounded.
The shootout was the first major security incident in Saudi Arabia since January 9, when four wanted militants were killed in a battle with security forces in a desert area of the kingdom.
The Saudi monarchy is trying to contain militant Islamists who have carried out bombings and shootings against government and Western targets.
