Spanish Judge Releases 13 Detained in Madrid Train Bombing Probe

update

Spanish officials say the judge investigating last year's deadly Madrid train bombings has released 13 men suspected of links to key figures in the attacks.

The officials say Judge Juan del Olmo granted conditional release on Wednesday to nine suspects detained in last week's raids in Madrid. They said the men, suspected of collaborating with a terrorist organization, will have to appear in court every week.

Officials say the nine have links to Serhane Ben Abdelmajid Fakhet, the alleged mastermind of the Madrid attacks that killed 191 people and injured about 1,900 others.

They say the judge on Tuesday freed another four suspects, all brothers. One of them will also have to appear in court every week.

Authorities say the four had links to Youssef Belhadj, now in prison in Spain on suspicion of involvement in the Madrid attacks.
