Somali Gunmen Kill Aid Worker, Injure Two Others

Gunmen in Somalia shot dead a Somali aid worker and injured two others as they drove in the capital, Mogadishu, Monday.

The victim, Maryam Mohamed Hassan, a woman, worked for the Swedish-based International Aid Services.

The aid group said unidentified assailants shot her in the face and chest as she was going to a seminar for Somali health and education aid workers. A consultant she was traveling with and her driver were injured.

The motive of the attack is not clear.

Somalia has been without a central government since militias overthrew dictator Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991. A new transitional government was formed late last year, but it has been operating out of neighboring Kenya because of security concerns in Mogadishu.
