2 Small Blasts Reported Outside British Consulate in New York

New York City police shuts down portion of Third Avenue in Manhattan as they investigate explosion in front of building which houses British Consulate, Thursday
Two small explosions have occurred outside the British consulate in New York City, causing minor damage but no injuries.

New York City police say the early Thursday morning blasts were caused by toy grenades filled with gunpowder. Officers estimate that one was the size of a pineapple, and the other the size of a lemon.

Police say the devices were placed in a cement flower box outside the building's front door.

The explosions reportedly shattered at least one window on the building's first floor and the windows of a nearby parked car.

The blasts came shortly after voting opened in Britain's general election.
