LPGA second round washed out by rain

Rain has washed out play in the second round of the Michelob Ultra Open LPGA golf tournament in Williamsburg, Virginia, with tournament organizers hoping to complete the event by Sunday.

Heavy thunderstorms on Friday made completing the second round impossible. Tournament officials said all second-round scores would be erased and the round restarted on Saturday.

Italian golfer Silvia Cavalleri is tied with Sweden's Catrin Nilsmark for the lead after both fired 4-under-par, 67s in the first round. Several golfers, including Americans Kristie Kerr and Laura Diaz, are tied for third, one stroke back at 3-under-par, 68.

World number one golfer Annika Sorenstam of Sweden, who is going for a record sixth win in a row, shot a 5-over-par, 76 in the first round.

The tournament is being played on the River Course at the Kings Mill Resort and Spa, a par-71 layout that measures 5,766 meters and was designed by renowned architect Pete Dye.
