Suns Take 3-2 Lead Over Mavericks in NBA Playoffs


In the National Basketball Association playoffs, the Phoenix Suns beat the Dallas Mavericks 114-108 behind Steve Nash's 34 points, 12 assists and 13 rebounds.

Amare Stoudemire added 33 points and 18 rebounds Wednesday for the victorious Suns. Dirk Nowitzki led the visiting Mavericks with 34 points.

The win gives the Suns a 3-2 lead over the Mavericks in the best-of-seven NBA quarter-final series, and puts them in position to advance to the Western Conference finals for the first time in 12 years with a win Friday in Dallas.

The San Antonio Spurs would advance to the West finals with a win late tonight (Thursday) against the SuperSonics in Seattle. The Spurs lead the series 3-2.

In the East, the defending NBA champion Detroit Pistons look to advance to the conference finals with a win tonight against the host Indiana Pacers. The Pistons lead the series 3-2. The winner of that series will face the well-rested Miami Heat for the Eastern Conference title.
