Indan Star Tendulkar Off the Pitch for Four Months

Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, the highest run scorer in one-day cricket, will be out of action for at least four months after undergoing an elbow operation in England.

Doctors say the batsman underwent the procedure Wednesday and there were no complications. They said he should be fit for play within about 16 weeks. The Indian batsman is also fourth on the all-time test scoring list with 10,134 runs.

The Indian cricket board said the 32-year-old would miss a one-day triangular series scheduled for August against Sri Lanka and the West Indies.

Tendulkar missed three one-day tournaments last year because of the injured elbow. He missed the first two matches of a 2-1 home test series loss to Australia in October. Tendulkar also had mixed success against Pakistan in a test and one-day series earlier this year.
