Airbus Delays Deliveries of New Super Jumbo Jet

The European aircraft manufacturer Airbus says it will delay delivery of the world's biggest jumbo jet by up to six months.

Company officials blame the delay of the giant Airbus A380 on the complexities of building the biggest passenger plane ever.

The delay is a blow to four major airlines who were expecting delivery of the double-decker 555-seat planes soon.

Singapore Airlines was scheduled to be the first carrier to fly the plane between London and Singapore. Officials tell Bloomberg News they may seek financial damages for the delay.

Australia's Quantas Airlines is also considering financial penalites.

Air France and Emirates also said they expect delays.

The announcement comes as Airbus is caught in a bitter trade dispute with Chicago-based Boeing over subsidies.
