World number one women's golfer Annika Sorenstam of Sweden and Juli Inkster of the United States are tied for the lead after the second round of the ShopRite LPGA Classic in Galloway Township, New Jersey.
Sorenstam birdied five of the last seven holes to fire a 6-under-par 65 and move to 10-under-par 132 for two rounds. Inkster had a 4-under-par 67 in the second round and is also 10-under for the tournament.
Laura Davies of Britain shot a tournament-record 9-under-par 62 in the second round and is 9-under-par 133. Pat Hurst of the United States is in fourth place, three strokes off the lead at 7-under-par 135.
Torrential rains and gusty winds plagued the course Friday. Saturday, humid conditions led to a swarm of gnats that plagued players and spectators.
The tournament is being played on the Seaview Resort and Spa Bay Course, a par 71 layout that measures 5,551 meters. The winner takes home $210,000.
