Button Grabs Pole for Canadian Grand Prix

British Formula One driver Jenson Button has captured the pole position for the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal.

Button drove his BAR-Honda around the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in 1:15.217 minutes to earn his first pole of the season and second of his career. He also won the pole last year at the San Marino Grand Prix.

Three-time defending champion Michael Schumacher of Germany drove his Ferrari to second place, completing the lap just over a quarter-second (.258) slower than Button. Schumacher has won the Canadian Grand Prix seven times in his career.

Current world championship points leader Fernando Alonso of Spain was the final qualifier of the day, and took third place in his Renault (1:15.561). Alonso has won four of the first seven races this season.
