The world's number-one ranked tennis players: Roger Federer of Switzerland and Lindsay Davenport of the United States - have advanced to the finals of the Wimbledon tennis championships in London.
Federer, a two-time defending champion, scored a straight-set win over Australian Lleyton Hewitt in the men's semifinals 6-3, 6-4, 7-6.
Federer meets the winner of Friday's other semifinal between 2004 runner-up Andy Roddick of the United States and Sweden's Thomas Johansson.
Davenport made the ladies' final by winning a rain-delayed semifinal over Amelie Mauresmo Friday. The players split the first two sets in tiebreakers and Davenport was leading the third set 5-3 when play was stopped Thursday because of rain.
The match was over shortly after it resumed Friday, with Mauresmo taking the first game on her own serve and then Davenport holding serve to capture the deciding set, 6-7, 7-6, 6-4. On Saturday Davenport meets compatriot Venus Williams, who ousted defending champion Maria Sharapova of Russia on Thursday.
