Golf: Lafeber Breaks Course Record at Loch Lomond Tournament

Dutch golfer Maarten Lafeber has fired an 8-under-par, 63 to take a one-stroke lead into the third round of the Barclays Scottish Open tournament in Luss, Scotland.

Lafeber's total of 12-under-par, 130 broke the 36-hole scoring record at the Loch Lomond course and put him one stroke ahead of first-round co-leader Angel Cabrera of Argentina, who fired a 4-under-par, 67 Friday.

Three golfers - Darren Clarke of Northern Ireland, Alastair Forsyth of Scotland and England's Jonathan Lomas - are tied for third, two strokes off the pace at 10-under-par, 132. Clarke and Lomas fired 6-under-par 65s Friday while Forsyth shot a 7-under-par, 64.

Ernie Els of South Africa, a two-time winner of this event, fired a 5-under-par, 66 and is six shots off the lead. Former Masters champion Phil Mickelson of the United States had a 1-over-par, 72 and is nine shots behind the leaders.

The tournament is the final European PGA Tour event before next week's British Open at Saint Andrews, the third major tournament of the year.
