Woods Takes 4 Stoke Lead at British Open

World number one men's golfer Tiger Woods of the United States leads Scotland's Colin Montgomerie by four strokes headed into the third round of the British Open golf tournament in Saint Andrews, Scotland.

Woods shot a 5-under-par, 67 on the Old Course to go to 11-under-par ,133 for the tournament. Montgomerie shot a 6-under-par, 65 in his second round and is 7-under-par, 137 for two rounds.

A large group - including world number two Vijay Singh of Fiji, two-time Masters champion Jose Maria Olazabal of Spain, South Africa's Trevor Immelman and Australian Robert Allenby - is tied for third place five strokes off the lead at 6-under-par, 138.

Another group that includes Sergio Garcia of Spain and former Masters winner Fred Couples of the United States is tied for 10th place six strokes off the leaders at 5-under-par, 139.

However three-time British Open winner Jack Nicklaus of the United States did not make the cut. Nicklaus fired an even-par 72 in the second round, but his first round score of three over par meant that the man known as "The Golden Bear" had played in his last major tournament.

Nicklaus stopped to wave good-bye to the crowd, which gave him a standing ovation. The 65-year-old Hall of Famer ended his major career on an up note - he birdied his final hole at Saint Andrews.
