Spain to Seek Extradition of Terrorism Suspect from Serbia

The Spanish government will seek the extradition of a Moroccan suspect arrested in Serbia earlier this year in connection with last year's train bombings in Madrid that killed 191 people.

A Spanish official made the announcement at a news conference Friday.

Serbian authorities last week confirmed that police had detained Moroccan Abdelmajid Bouchar in June on charges of violating immigration laws.

Spanish officials say Mr. Bouchar escaped from an apartment building near Madrid on April third, 2004 - just before police stormed the premises to arrest several suspects in the deadly attacks. The suspected Islamic militants blew themselves up as police prepared for the assault.

The incident took place three weeks after the bomb attacks on Madrid's transit system.
