Draw Completed for Group Stage of UEFA Cup


The draw has been held in Nyon, Switzerland for the group stage of the 2005-2006 UEFA Cup football tournament.

Defending champion CSKA Moscow was drawn into Group-F Tuesday, where it will face French club Olympique Marseille, Heerenveen of the Netherlands, Levski Sofia of Bulgaria and Dinamo Bucharest of Romania.

Group play begins October 20 with the 40 teams split up into eight groups of five, with three teams from each group advancing to the next round. The competition then reverts to a knockout stage, with the 24 advancing teams being joined by the eight third-place finishers from the Champions League group phase. The final will be played May 10 in Eindhoven, Netherlands.

French league team AS Monaco is in Group-A with Hamburg of Germany, Czech side Slavia Prague, CSKA Sofia of Bulgaria and Norway's Viking FK.

Lokomotiv Moscow of Russia plays Espanyol of Spain, Italy's Palermo, Brondby IF of Denmark and Israel's Maccabi Petach-Tikva in Group-B.

Group-C includes Lens of France, Germany's Hertha Berlin, Sampdoria of Italy, Romanian side Steaua Bucharest and Sweden's Halmstads BK.

Surprise Dutch league leader AZ Alkmaar is in Group-D with England's Middlesbrough, Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk of Ukraine, Grasshoppers Zurich of Switzerland and Bulgaria's Litex Lovech.

In Group-E, Strasbourg of France faces Italy's AS Roma, Basel of Switzerland, Red Star Belgrade of Serbia and Montenegro and Norway's Tromso.

Rennes of France is grouped with VfB Stuttgart of Germany, Greek club PAOK, Shakhtar Donetsk of Ukraine and Rapid Bucharest of Romania in Group-G.

And in Group-H, Zenit Saint Petersburg of Russia will face Turkey's Besiktas, Sevilla of Spain, England's Bolton Wanderers and Vitoria Guimaraes of Portugal.
