Before joining VOA in 1998, Jela de Franceschi contributed to leading Western media organizations during the course of the Balkan conflict. She reported for CBS Radio from 1992 to 1995 and was a frequent contributor to CNN’s World Report from 1990 to 1992. She has also worked for the BBC, Thames Television, Australian ABC and Canadian CBC television.
Jela de Franceschi applied her journalistic skills in helping the setting up of an independent media center in Zagreb, Croatia in 1996. From 1996 to 1998 she was a consultant for the Stockholm-based International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance - an intergovernmental organization with member states from all continents that supports sustainable democracy worldwide.
Jela has traveled widely throughout Central and Eastern Europe, as well as in Central and South Asia.
