Tennis: Federer, Others Withdraw from Paris Masters

World number-one men's tennis player Roger Federer of Switzerland and Russian defending champion Marat Safin headline a group of top players who have withdrawn from this week's Paris Masters tournament because of injuries.

Federer has a torn ligament in his right ankle while Safin is suffering from tendinitis in his left knee. American Andre Agassi, French Open champion Rafael Nadal and his fellow-Spaniard Carlos Moya have also pulled out of the indoor tournament, which begins Monday at the Bercy arena.

Agassi has a sore back, Nadal has tendinitis in his knees and Moya has an injured right shoulder. Australian Lleyton Hewitt, who has an injured toe, has yet to confirm whether he will play.
