Azerbaijan Constitutional Court Confirms Parliamentary Election Results

Azerbaijan's constitutional court has confirmed the final results of last month's parliamentary elections, which the opposition says were rigged.

The court Thursday reduced the number of seats won by the governing New Azerbaijan Party from 58 to 56. The opposition's share was reduced from 10 to eight and two independent lawmakers were left without their seats.

The high court also ordered a re-vote in six constituencies, but authorities set no date for the balloting.

Thousands of opposition supporters repeatedly demonstrated in Baku to protest the results. Police broke up the latest protest Saturday, arresting more than 20 people.

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe said last month's vote "did not meet international standards despite some improvements."
