International observers say President Nursultan Nazarbayev's landslide victory in Kazakhstan's presidential election is flawed.
In a strongly-worded statement Monday, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe said Sunday's election failed to meet international standards, citing ballot stuffing, multiple voting and intimidation.
However, a group of observers from the Russia-led Commonwealth of Independent States said the balloting was "free and fair."
Kazakhstan's Central Election Commission announced earlier that Mr. Nazarbayev garnered 91 percent of the votes, while his closest rival, opposition leader Zharmakhan Tuyakbai, received only six percent.
Mr. Tuyakbai alleged the count was fraudulent and called for the results to be annulled. He warned the country was turning from an authoritarian regime into a totalitarian one.
