A Haitian presidential candidate has been detained by United Nations peacekeepers for carrying illegal firearms.
Dany Toussaint was arrested by Chilean soldiers in the northern city of Cap-Haitien Monday. Officials say he was carrying at least two unregistered weapons.
Mr. Toussaint, a former Haitian senator, is one of more than 30 candidates seeking the presidency. The vote originally was scheduled for Sunday January 8, but it has been postponed due to logistical problems.
The elections will be Haiti's first since an armed uprising forced former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide from power nearly two years ago - in February 2004.
