Recovery Efforts End at Site of Mecca Building Collapse

update

Saudi interior ministry officials say rescue operations at a collapsed building in the holy city of Mecca have ended, and that the death toll stands at 76.

The hostel, where Muslim pilgrims had been staying for this year's hajj pilgrimage, collapsed on Thursday. More than two million Muslims are expected to come to the city for the hajj, which begins on Sunday.

A report from the Saudi Press Agency says 41 people were rescued by civil defense forces. Officials say 62 other people were injured.

The collapsed building is near Mecca's Great Mosque, Islam's holiest shrine. It was not immediately clear what caused the building to collapse.
