Hockey: Blue Jackets Beat Blues 4-3


In National Hockey League play, the Columbus Blue Jackets beat St. Louis 4-3 in a shootout to hand the Blues their ninth straight loss.

Rick Nash scored in the post-overtime tiebreaker to lift the Jackets on their home ice. Columbus defenseman Bryan Berard of the United States played Friday's game just hours after learning he is suspended from international competition for two years for failing a drug test for a banned steroid. His status in the NHL was not affected.

The Minnesota Wild trounced the visiting Chicago Blackhawks 4-1. Minnesota goalie Manny Fernandez made 31 saves to lead the Wild. He has the best goals-against average in the NHL (2.02) and if tied with Ottawa's Dominik Hasek for for the best save percentage (.929).

In the league's only other game Friday, the defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning scored four goals in the first period on their way to a 6-3 victory over the host Dallas Stars.
