Straw: Iran Has Last Chance to Come Clean on Nuclear Issue

British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw says he will meet with his Iranian counterpart, Manouchehr Mottaki, in London Wednesday and inform him that Tehran has one final chance to convince the world that its nuclear program is peaceful.

Straw told BBC radio Iranians must understand that the international community's position on the nuclear issue is not a threat to Iran, rather an opportunity for Tehran to meet its obligations.

The West accuses Iran of secretly trying to develop nuclear weapons. Iran denies the charge.

Major powers have recommended that the International Atomic Energy Agency refer the Iranian dispute to the U.N. Security Council. An IAEA vote on the issue is set for Thursday in Vienna.

Iran has threatened to block U.N. officials from staging any snap inspections of its nuclear facilities if it is referred to the council.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has vowed to resist Western pressure and insisted Tehran will not give up the right to develop its atomic program.
