An unidentified gunman has killed an Italian Roman Catholic priest in the Turkish city of Trabzon.
Turkish officials say the attacker, described as being in his late teens, killed Andrea Santoro in the courtyard of the 19th Century Santa Maria Church.
Turkish Justice Minister Cemil Cicek condemned the attack and vowed that everything would be done to bring the killer to justice. Authorities set up road blocks around Trabzon in an effort to find the attacker.
Officials say the motive for the killing is not immediately clear.
They say it could be related to the growing anger in the Muslim world over the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed in Europe.
