Mexican painter and sculptor Juan Soriano died early Friday at the age of 85.
Soriano's career spanned 70 years. His work was first exhibited while he was still a teenager and throughout his life was exhibited around the world. He won Spain's prestigious Premio Velazquez de Artes Plasticas prize in May of last year.
He was one of the last surviving members of what is known as the "Mexican School" cultural movement that included such artists as Frida Kahlo and writer Octavio Paz, a close friend of Soriano's.Some information for this report was provided by AFP, AP and Reuters.
