Israeli soldiers searching for militants in a West Bank village shot and killed a mentally disabled young Palestinian who was waving a toy gun at them late Tuesday.
The Israeli army's initial statement about the incident says troops spotted a gunman approaching them and shot him dead.
Residents of the village, Qabatiya, described the victim as mentally disabled and said he was about 20 years old, perhaps younger. They said the soldiers opened fire when the young man walked toward them, holding his toy gun and shouting, "Leave the village."Some information for this report was provided by AP and Reuters.
