Bolivia has released on bail two officials from the Spanish oil company Repsol YPF after they gave testimony in a smuggling probe.
Julio Gavito of Spain and Pedro Sanchez of Argentina were freed Wednesday after several hours in custody in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Police had questioned them on Tuesday.
The Bolivian customs agency alleges Repsol illegally exported more than nine million dollars' worth of Bolivian oil between 2004 and 2005. Repsol has denied any wrongdoing.
Bolivian police raided Repsol offices in Santa Cruz last week. Authorities are now conducting a separate investigation involving contraband equipment.
Despite its legal troubles, Repsol has said it wants to continue working in Bolivia. Some information for this report was provided by AP and Reuters.
