German national football (soccer) midfielder Sebastian Deisler has re-injured his right knee and will miss next Wednesday's World Cup warm-up match against the United States in Dortmund.
His club team, Bayern Munich, said Wednesday that Deisler will come to the U.S. for arthroscopic surgery to determine the extent of the injury. Bayern coach Felix Magath said it is still uncertain how long Deisler will be out of action.
The 26-year-old was hurt Tuesday during practice when he collided with Bayern Munich teammate Owen Hargreaves.
Deisler has a long history of injuries, and has already had numerous surgeries on his right knee. If the knee injury is serious enough, he could be unable to play in this year's World Cup, after missing the 2002 finals because of another serious knee injury.
