NBA: Hornets Beat Clippers, Snap Losing Streak


The New Orleans Hornets of the National Basketball Association gave their hurricane weary fans a much-needed lift Tuesday by storming past the Los Angeles Clippers, 120-108, and snapping an eight-game losing streak.

The Hornets' Rasual Butler scored a career high 32 points in the team's third and final appearance on their New Orleans home court this season. Destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina has forced the Hornets to play almost all of their games in Oklahoma City.

In the other NBA games, the San Antonio Spurs beat the Golden State Warriors, 107-96. Tony Parker scored 29 points to lead the defending champions, while Tim Duncan had 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

The Minnesota Timberwolves downed the Miami Heat, 100-96. Minnesota's Rickey Davis scored 26 points and had 10 assists, while teammate Kevin Garnett added 23 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Dwayne Wade scored 35 points for Miami, who did not have the services of Shaquille O'Neal - out with a thumb injury.

Dirk Nowitzki scored 28 points to lead the Dallas Mavericks to a dominating 88-72 win over the Houston Rockets. Houston's Yao Ming finished with only 13 points, his worst game in a month. The Memphis Grizzlies, with 23 points from Pau Gasol, routed the Indiana Pacers, 105-75.

The New Jersey Nets eked out a 112-100 win over the Washington Wizards. Vince Carter scored 28 points for the Nets, and his teammate Richard Jefferson had 27 points -- with 21 of them in the game's third and fourth quarters. The Toronto Raptors won for the fourth time in five games - 114-109 over the New York Knicks.

Gerard Wallace scored 27 points to lead the Charlotte Bobcats to a 108-102 victory over the Orlando Magic. The loss was Orlando's 16th consecutive loss on the road, a franchise record. Ron Artest scored a season-high 34 points as the Sacramento Kings downed the Seattle Super Sonics 105-96.

And the Utah Jazz beat the Phoenix Suns, 107-99. Andrei Kirilenko finished with 22 points and a career-high 18 rebounds to lead the Jazz.
