NHL: Flyers in First Place After Beating NY Rangers

The Philadelphia Flyers have moved into a first place tie in the National Hockey League's Atlantic Division after beating the New York Rangers 6-3 Wednesday night.

Mike Knuble scored twice for the Flyers, who won despite New York's Jaromir Jagr collecting his third hat trick of the season.

Elsewhere in the NHL, the Florida Panthers downed the Washington Capitals 3-2 for their first four-game winning streak of the season. Jon Sim, Jozef Stumpel and Joe Nieuwendyk all scored for Florida, who moved within five points of the Atlanta Thrashers for the eighth playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Carolina Hurricanes beat the Buffalo Sabres 4-3 to snap a two-game losing streak. The Hurricanes overcame a third period scoring onslaught by the Sabres to ensure the victory.

Goalie Marty Turco made 15 saves to help the Dallas Stars defeat the Minnesota Wild 4-2. Turco has now won 37 games for Dallas, tying the club record set by Ed Belfour during the 1997-98 season and duplicating his own feat in 2003-04.

The Anaheim Mighty Ducks rallied from a three-goal deficit to beat the Colorado Avalanche 5-4 in overtime.
