NHL: Canadiens Shut Out Islanders


Cristobal Huet had 36 saves for his sixth shutout as the Montreal Canadiens blanked the New York Islanders, 2-0, Tuesday in the National Hockey League. Montreal stays five points ahead of the Atlanta Thrashers in the battle for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Toronto Maple Leafs edged the Philadelphia Flyers, 3-2. Jean-Sebastien Aubin had 28 saves in his second win since being called up from the minor leagues two weeks ago.

Rick Nash scored two goals to lead the Columbus Blue Jackets past the San Jose Sharks, 4-1. It was the Jackets' 29th win of the season, tying a franchise record.

The New Jersey Devils' Scott Gomez scored the only goal in a shootout to beat the Ottawa Senators, 3-2. Dany Heatley scored both of Ottawa's earlier goals, giving him a career-high 42 goals for the season.

Goalkeeper Curtis Joseph moved into sixth place on the N.H.L.'s career wins list as his Phoenix Coyotes topped the Nashville Predators, 5-3. Joseph had 28 saves in his 424th career victory.

Andrew Brunette scored two third-period goals to give the Colorado Avalanche a 4-3 win over the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. The loss snapped Anaheim's six-game winning streak.

Brian Rolston and Pierre-Marc Bouchard each had a goal and an assist in the third period as the Minnesota Wild came from behind to beat the Edmonton Oilers, 3-2.
