NBA: James Helps Cavs End Playoff Drought


LeBron James poured in 46 points as the Cleveland Cavaliers clinched a playoff spot with a 107-94 victory over the Dallas Mavericks Wednesday night in the National Basketball Association. It is Cleveland's first playoff berth in eight years.

The New Jersey Nets won their 10th straight game, defeating the Memphis Grizzlies 86-74. Richard Jefferson had 27 to lead the Nets.

Dwyane Wade scored 37 as the Miami Heat edged the Toronto Raptors 98-94. The Heat played without big men Shaquille O'Neal and Alonzo Mourning, who are both nursing leg injuries.

The Detroit Pistons picked up their sixth win in the last seven games, getting past the Philadelphia 76ers 101-91.

Brad Miller pumped in 24 points to lead the Sacramento Kings past the Portland Trail Blazers 106-90.

Yao Ming scored 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Houston Rockets crushed the Seattle SuperSonics 115-87.

The Minnesota Timberwolves topped the Orlando Magic 103-91. Kevin Garnett had 27 points and 19 rebounds for Minnesota.

Andrei Kirilenko had 21 points, nine rebounds and seven blocks to lead the Utah Jazz past the Denver Nuggets 115-104.

Rasual Butler threw in a trio of three-pointers in the final four-and-a-half minutes to lead the New Orleans Hornets over the Golden State Warriors 86-85.

The lowly Atlanta Hawks completed a four-game season sweep of the Indiana Pacers with a 94-93 win. Former Pacer Al Harrington scored 23 for the Hawks.

The New York Knicks lost their sixth in a row, falling to the Boston Celtics 123-98. Paul Pierce led the Celtics with 22 points.
